I have been slow-roasting my brisket all day! I just used a simple rub consisting of the following powders: red chili, garlic, mustard, and also some coarse ground sea salt, fresh ground pepper. I put chopped onions and carrots in the dutch oven before placing the brisket in (i didnt have onion powder and I used the carrots for more of a steam effect cause it raised the meat off the bottom of the pan more), uncovered for one hour, then added 1 inch of water, covered tightly and continue to cook for 3 hours. I am steaming asparagus for a side and covering all with the drippings when I serve. it smells great! We havent served it yet, but we are all waiting impatiently!

If you've ever tasted rhubarb and think it could just do with the edge off that tartness without using sugar, this is that rhubarb. Such a deep colour and beautiful flavour, it is a natural condiment for all manner of things.

You're absolutely right there Jenna. My step-daughter is a pescetarian (vegetarian with fish) and this is something I'm sure she'd love. I'd not considered that ... my wife loved it, so perhaps when the family is together, I'll do this.

We had this as a starter and I struggle to think what we had for main, but it must have been light - this was a very satisfying dish.

My wife absolutely loved it. Straight up cauliflower & cheese mash over here with one meal and guacamole over there with an entirely different meal works better for me, though.

Will I be shunned if I admit to not liking laverbread, though cockles bought by the pint are wonderful. I love the market, so much good fresh food at reasonable prices.
